Ice Fishing

Hello, members! We are thrilled to announce that Godfrey’s Pond offers a multitude of outdoor activities all year round, and one of the most exciting experiences you can enjoy during the winter season is ice fishing. This unique activity combines the tranquility of fishing with the beauty and serenity of a wintry landscape. Whether you’re looking to spend a peaceful day alone or seeking a fun family outing, ice fishing at Godfrey’s Pond is an opportunity you won’t want to miss.

While we’re excited to invite you to try ice fishing, we must emphasize the importance of safety. The favorable weather conditions have made the ice thick enough for fishing, but always use caution. Here are a few safety tips to keep in mind:

  • Check the Ice: Ensure the ice is at least 4 inches thick before venturing out.
  • Bring Safety Equipment: Carry ice picks, a rope, and a flotation device.
  • Fish with a Buddy: Never ice fish alone; it’s always safer to have someone with you.
  • Stay Informed: Keep updated with weather reports and ice conditions.

Ice fishing is not only for the avid angler but also a fantastic activity for families. Bring the kids along for an adventure in the great outdoors. It’s a wonderful way to teach them about nature, patience, and the joys of fishing.

There are still plenty of nice-sized fish waiting beneath the ice. Whether you’re aiming for bass, trout, or another species, you might be surprised at your catch. Remember, fishing is as much about the experience as it is about the catch.

For those interested in learning more about ice fishing, the Department of Environmental Conservation (D.E.C.) offers an informative video and additional resources. We encourage you to check it out through the link below for tips and guidance on making the most of your ice fishing adventure.

We look forward to seeing you out on the ice at Godfrey’s Pond. Stay safe and happy fishing!
